For being such a small place (in comparison to many much larger countries) I was surprised to hear such a large array of weird names. Then again … it doesn’t really surprise me. These are my favourites. Enjoy!

I can’t even make it fit on one line! Apparently translated from welsh it roughly means ‘St Mary’s church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave’.

That’s how to pronounce it.
There a place in Northumbria called Shilbottle, although the sign on the A1 is sometimes changed to “Shitbottle”
There’s a hamlet called Besses o’ th’ barn, it’s now part of Whitefield, Manchester
